I want to spend all day in the water. It soothes me. I feel pure, young, innocent. I think of you. I ask you to send me messages through the waves, answers. Can you hear me? Send me a wave. The water is clear, I see straight down to the dust-colored sand. The waves are … Continue reading Hillary

Red light Rincon. Some nights you just need to bring yourself to the ocean with greasy takeout food and a cup of coquito. . (Red lights are for turtles 🐢:) . . . . . #selfcare #islandlife #rinconpr
So, I'm not saying I'm NOT proud of these shelves but for about 5 of the 15 hours I put into building them I really had no idea what I was doing. Like, scratching my head, measuring edges, drawing pictures, flipping the square around and around, fiddling with that angle measurey tool that opens and closes, drawing more pictures (as if a picture of a sunflower would help.) Walking the 200 yard trail from the shack to the main house, to recharge the one out of ten dewalt batteries that's still good, then back to the shack another 200 yards out to the wood pile to pick mismatched, twisted boards from the ants and termites under the tarps. . So, what I'm saying is I learned (maybe) how to make fitted shelves (I'm still not convinced it wasn't just pure luck in the end...Dad,help!) And I used recycle Hooch wood from Hurricane Maria. AND I can finally unpack. So yeah, I feel good. Just that if I was a professional carpenter charging $30/hour these shelves would be...$450... . Anyone want some one-of-a-kind kinda rotty hurricane salvaged shelves? . . . . . #islandlife #shacklife #salvagedwood #tropicaltreehouse #womenwhotravel #womenwhobuild #daddysgirl #thanksdad

My last morning waking up in this princess bed @tropicaltreehouse before I move out to my very own shack:) It's been lovely. . . . . . #islandlife #rinconpr #caribbean #tropicaltreehouse #tropicalparadise #shacklife #tinyhome
Library books. The sound. The smell. Crinkling plastic, shiny pages, inky and metallic. . A fading film picture of three sun-baked, knobby-kneed boat kids. Two bright blond, one red-head, 1980’s home-sliced haircuts, generous in the bangs, efficient to keep salty hair out of eyes. Wearing undies and oversized shirts, leaning in transfixed around a weary mom and a picture book. Turning each page so slowly, reading each sentence so precisely. Wild children for a moment at rest. . Read more, link in blog:) . . . . . #boatkids #islandchild #childhoodmemories #sailboatlife #memoir #womenwhowrite #womenwhosail #womenwhotravel #writersofinstagram #readtogether #knowinghome #knowinghomeblog
